During the initial stage of its operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), Air India Group plans for 20 departures from Mumbai's new, second air hub.

In a statement, Air India Group stated the initial 20 daily departures (40 Air Traffic Movements) at the NMIA will be operated by its budget carrier Air India Express to 15 cities within India.

Following the initial phase, Air India Group intends to expand its daily departures from NMIA to 55 daily (110 ATMs) by mid-2026. This will include 5 daily international flights.

By winter 2026, the group will further expand its operations to 60 daily departures (120 ATMS).

Upon its opening, NMIA – located 50 kilometers east of Mumbai city center  - is expected to accommodate 20 million passengers per year. When fully completed, the airport will accommodate around 90 million passengers per year. Adani Airports Holding Ltd., is the operator of what will be Mumbai's second air hub.

“We look forward to commencing operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport, as Mumbai joins the league of world cities with more than one airport,” said Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India. “We are happy to work with Adani Airports to build NMIA not only as a point that connects to the rest of India, but also as one of the country’s key global transit hubs for both – passengers and cargo – given its strategic geographical location.”

“We are delighted to welcome Air India Group to Navi Mumbai International Airport as one of our valued airline partners. Their ambitious expansion plans and global vision are perfectly aligned with our aim of making NMIA a benchmark in global aviation,” added Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd.

According to Air India Group, the planned operations of Air India Express at NMIA will boost connectivity to/from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to destinations within and beyond India, while fostering seamless international transits through NMIA.
